This cooker has a 1 quart or four cup capacity and I usually use it to serve two people at the two cup level. It has both high and low temperature settings which is beneficial as some slow cookers do not have this feature. Cooking on high will take about four hours to be done, but with the option to cycle between high and low heat settings, you can cook more gradually. The metal housing and stoneware crock both have handles, making it easy to lift the stoneware pot out, although the stoneware handles can get hot during cooking. It's best to move the pot by holding the plastic handles on the housing. Following the manual's instructions, it's important to let the stoneware crock cool before washing it. I have been experimenting with Rancho Gordo brand dried beans, lentils, and polenta and have been pleased with the results.

This slow cooker has some pros, such as its affordable price and compact size. However, it has some cons, including the lack of a medium setting, timer, and indicator light, as well as exterior smudging easily and taking a long time to cook. The low and high settings seem more like medium and high, and the cooker may be best suited for those cooking for themselves with plenty of time to wait. If you plan to cook more complex dishes or for a larger group, it may be best to invest in a more powerful and feature-rich slow cooker.

I live in a basement without a stove or microwave, so this slow cooker is perfect for keeping food warm or reheating. It's small, but great for one or two people. I cook rice and stir fry in it, and you can even warm up hotdogs and put them in buns. Before I had this, I ate a lot of cold meals, so it's been really helpful. It would be great for a dorm setting too.

I really like how small and compact this unit is. It takes around 45 minutes to heat up a can of soup, which is great. Unfortunately, I have to exchange it due to prop 65, but I will continue using it until then. If it wasn't for prop 65, I wouldn't be looking to upgrade for quite some time.

I have one complaint about the product, which is that the black line on the lid is not a vapor seal. However, if you adjust your recipes for one or two meals for two people, it works well. To clean it, simply spray or wipe it with vegetable oil and it's a quick wash and rinse. To keep food hot, use the Low setting, as the Warm setting is not very hot and could potentially lead to food poisoning. Overall, considering all of this, it's a great value for the price!

Wasting Energy and Heating My Home

I bought the Courant Electric Slow Cooker for its small size and easy operation. It arrived quickly and looks elegant. However, I noticed that it gets very hot to touch and a lot of heat escapes, which affects its efficiency. I didn't consider this before purchasing, and now I realize that the 120W power rating means slow heating. I previously used a rice cooker that stayed cool to touch and cooked much faster. Despite this, the slow cooker is great for small meals and during the winter. I live in Southern California, so the heat release is bothersome. I would be willing to pay more for a similar, but better insulated, cooler-to-touch slow cooker, and I also suggest adding an extra power setting between High and Low. Overall, I am happy with my purchase, but the issue with the heat causes me to deduct one star. I am still on the lookout for a better thermal isolation device.

Recently purchased a small 1 1/2 qt crock pot, but the receipt book that came with it does not match the size. One recipe in the book calls for 8 cups of chicken soup, which doesn't seem feasible for the smaller pot. Can anyone advise on how to adjust the recipe for my smaller crock pot?
