I bought the single burner INFRARED burner to use with my backup power system in my Prius. It can be adjusted from 100 to 1500 watts, making it great for off-grid living and precise cooking. It can cook at lower wattage and doesn't require special magnetic pots and pans. Starting dishes at a higher temperature and then lowering it is more efficient. The default starting temperature of 1500 watts is a downside. A chart showing temperature to wattage would be helpful.

I have used this burner as my only cooktop for over a year to avoid using my gas stove. It heats up water quickly and the fan is not too loud. However, there is a louder buzz on the lowest watt output range and the fan stays on for several minutes after it's turned off. Using a large pot is recommended to avoid any bad smells. I was pleasantly surprised by this hotplate. It doesn't have temperature control, but the ability to set wattage in 100 watt increments from 100 to 1500 is even more useful. It allows me to control the rate of boiling when I'm making soup, and I can also use it to keep food warm without boiling. The box it comes in is also great for storing the unit.

We've had the unit for a week and it's been great so far. The water boils quickly and you can select a range of heat. The controls on top are convenient. The timer is useful but it would be better if it had an audible beep when it runs out. The unit looks nice, the handles are great, and it's portable. The power indicator light flashing when turned off is a bit annoying. We haven't tried the soup setting yet, but based on the cook function, we expect it to be good.
