The burner emitted a burning smell and started smoking the first time it was used on both burners. After taking it apart and checking the wires, everything seemed fine. However, the burners now only start at the 3 setting, despite the dials being properly aligned.

I like the size of the burner and the cast iron burners. I timed boiling water on MAX in a 2 quart pot filled 1/3 of the way. It took 12 minutes to boil. It is difficult to turn down the heat when you need to cook on MAX because you're in a hurry. Depending on your cooking process, you may need to turn it OFF or move the pot over to a cool burner. This is on par with most electric burners.
