After watching the product demo video, I did notice that the speed 1 starts out at a near medium speed for a second, but it's not a big issue for me compared to other hand mixers. Some reviewers mentioned a motor issue, but I think it's just the standard motor startup for Courant hand mixers. Overall, I'm happy with my purchase, especially for holiday baking.
